Transparent dental splintsThe invisible solution for straight teeth
Straight teeth with the help of aligners
Would you like your teeth to be more evenly aligned, but are afraid of orthodontic treatment with metal brackets…? Then invisible braces are just the right solution for you. They move your teeth gradually, quickly and unobtrusively into the desired position.
We co-operate in the field of tooth correction with DrSmile, one of the leading providers of aligner technology and a partner of the Straumann Group, one of the world’s leading implant providers with many years of experience in aligner development. The modern technologies are developed in Germany and meet the highest quality standards. All materials used fulfil the highest medical standards.

What are dental aligners and what are they made of?
Aligners are transparent, customised plastic splints for the almost invisible treatment of misaligned teeth. This method can be used to correct a wide range of malocclusions – from minor tooth misalignments to more complex dental situations.
DrSmile aligners are made of dimensionally stable thermoplastic material that is approved for medical use (ISO 9001:2015). They are free from plasticisers (BPA) and other harmful substances.
Advantages of dental splints with Dr Lutz

Aligners make it possible to correct many different tooth misalignments and improve your smile without attracting attention in everyday life. The aligners can and must be removed for drinking, eating and brushing teeth. This ensures optimum oral hygiene. In addition, it is still possible to eat all foods.

The procedure
Your individual tooth position is the basis for our detailed consultation:
In the first step, we use a three-dimensional digital impression to check whether tooth correction with aligners is fundamentally feasible for your dental situation.
If this is the case, we create your individual treatment plan, which uses a 3D simulation to show the individual treatment steps up to the final treatment result. This allows you to see what your smile will look like before treatment begins and then decide whether you want to go ahead with the treatment. The consultation and the 3D treatment plan are completely free of charge for you. You only pay once you have given your consent.
After your approval, it takes an average of 5 weeks for the customised aligners to arrive at your home. You will then have to wear the aligners consistently 22 hours a day for a fortnight at a time. With each new aligner, your teeth will increasingly move into the intended final position. You will be looked after conveniently via app and, if necessary, by us in the practice from the beginning to the end of the treatment, which lasts approx. 4-9 months. You can rely on DrSmile’s promise of satisfaction: treatment will continue until every tooth is positioned exactly as simulated in your treatment plan.
The costs
The treatment costs for DrSmile aligners are generally lower than for orthodontic treatment with conventional fixed braces. The price level depends on the respective malocclusion and the resulting complexity of the treatment. We can only determine the exact price after a more detailed analysis. In general, however, the cost of treatment is between €1,790 and €2,990.
DrSmile also offers attractive instalment models: you can pay the treatment costs in monthly instalments from 33 euros – provided you are creditworthy, of course.
Please note that the above price model does not include the cost of retainers, which are fitted at the end of the treatment to fix the result. Accompanying ASR treatment(i) is also charged separately and is not included in the above aligner prices.

Frequently asked questions and answers about dental splints
Just like conventional dental splints, invisible dental splints are customised to the individual dental situation in order to correct malocclusions. Invisible aligners are made of transparent plastic, a softer material than conventional aligners. During the course of treatment, the splints are replaced every two weeks, gradually shifting the teeth.
As a rule, statutory health insurance companies do not cover the costs of treatment, as these are corrections that are categorised as cosmetic. Many private insurance companies cover the treatment costs in part or in full. This depends on whether or not orthodontics is excluded in the policy conditions.
In certain situations, it is advisable not to use dental splints, e.g. during ongoing dental treatment for caries, when taking certain medications or during pregnancy. Some medications and pregnancy soften the gums, which can lead to inflammation. Any periodontitis must first be treated before splint therapy can be started.
The length of treatment depends on the type and degree of malocclusion. On average, it takes between four and nine months with DrSmile aligners. However, there can also be variations: Some treatments are completed in half the time, while others can extend to more than a year. Once the teeth are in the desired position, we fix the result with fixed retainers so that the teeth are permanently held in their final position.
That depends…. Basically, all it takes is a single appointment for the initial fitting. Subsequent online support from the DrSmile team is always available. Of course, if you have any problems, it makes sense to make an appointment with us to have the cause of e.g. excessive pressure when wearing the braces examined.
The aligners should be cleaned as often as the teeth, and before each insertion. A toothbrush is suitable for cleaning, but without toothpaste, as the abrasive effect of the toothpaste mattes the tray, making it less visible. Only cold/ lukewarm water should be used for cleaning, as otherwise the splint can become deformed, just like when eating or drinking too hot.
Invisible aligners are invisible because they are made of elastic thermoplastic material. Although this plastic is very comfortable to wear, it is also easily deformed. It does not like heat and pressure – cold drinks are fine, especially cold water. However, hot water, for example tea, can be too much. In addition, colourants in food and drink discolour the plastic – and the invisibility is gone.
